This collection of 24 B/W photographs of Kg Hakka Mantin was on display at the Kuala Lumpur Photography Festival last weekend. It was an important visual statement about a significant Malaysian historical and cultural landscape.
The Arts-ED Penang, 8-10 Nov.14, invited over thirty individuals and groups in the country to come together to network and to share their experiences working in communities through the various arts practises.
The Kampung Hakka Mantin ????? folks are helping Yap Tuck Chai’s family rebuilt another home where their house was demolished in a questionable manner. Their family dog died guarding the house from the intruders. They are determined to establish their rights to stay. Any help is welcome. The elected law makers promised change but is this the best they can do? Please share.
This event took the visitors through the 12 months of continuous demolition to this village and how the villagers are keeping up their spirit to stay in their homes. We will also visit two nearby religious sites the Mariamman temple and later have vegetarian lunch at the Gurdwara Sahib Mantin. After lunch there will be an exhibition walk through and an open discussion at the interpretive centre.
